Miaya’s work focuses on expanding access to literacy and early childhood education for all communities. She earned her B.A. in English from Spelman College before completing her M.A. in Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University, where her interdisciplinary studies explored the relationship between media, culture, and education.
Miaya’s foundation in community-facing work began as a Program Manager with the City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office Division of Youth Services, where she spent two years creating pathways for young people to explore their professional interests and pursue meaningful careers. She later transitioned to higher education as a Student Engagement Coordinator at NYU.
In her current role, Miaya facilitates learning experiences that help caregivers build strong foundations for lifelong literacy through programs like Birmingham Talks. She is particularly interested in reimagining how families are introduced to early literacy and building community partnerships that empower caregivers to support their little ones from the very beginning.
