Providers lead: join the Small Magic Provider Council

BIRMINGHAM, AL – AUGUST 17, 2025: DeAuria Moultrie, educator at New Beginning Child Development Center.

Applications are open now and close January 23.

What is the Provider Council?

Early childhood providers are experts because you live the reality every day. You see what families need, what systems get right, and where policies fall short. That’s why Small Magic is launching the Provider Council, a dedicated space for Jefferson County early childhood providers to build power together, share expertise, and drive change across the early childhood system.

The Provider Council is a provider-led group that will help shape the vision and priorities for early childhood across Jefferson County. Council members will work collaboratively to identify what’s working, name what’s not, and co-design policy recommendations and solutions grounded in frontline experience.

What the commitment looks like

This council is designed to be practical, respectful of your time, and connected to real decisions and system improvements.

  • Attend monthly 90-minute meetings to review data, share frontline insights, and co-design policy recommendations
  • Serve as an ambassador by gathering feedback from peers, testing tools or pilots when relevant, and sharing emerging challenges and successes
  • Help build a stronger provider network rooted in shared learning and collective action

Why join?

We know your time is valuable. Serving on the Provider Council is both an investment in the community and an investment in you. As a member, you’ll receive:

  • $20/hour compensation
  • Connection with other early childhood champions who share your passion
  • Growth opportunities through leadership, advocacy, and professional development

Who should apply?

We’re looking for Jefferson County early childhood providers who directly serve young children and families, across a variety of settings and roles, who care about strengthening the early childhood system and want to collaborate with peers to bring provider insights into decision-making spaces.

If you’re not sure whether you fit, apply anyway. We value a council that reflects the diversity of providers and experiences across Jefferson County.
