Seeking curriculum design partners: help us build the next generation of early readers

We’re looking for a partner to help bring a new early literacy curriculum to life.

Over the past few years, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside families who are deeply invested in their children’s learning—what we’ve seen is the power of pairing that commitment with playful, research-informed strategies. That belief sits at the heart of Phonics Power, a program that pairs families with literacy specialists to explore research-backed strategies for building early reading skills at home.

This began as a pilot. There was no formal curriculum, just great coaches, strong relationships, and smart literacy tools. Still, the impact was clear. In our most recent group, children showed an 89% gain in letter-sound knowledge. That momentum is something our team is ready to build on.

Now we’re inviting proposals for the creation of a full, evidence-based phonics curriculum designed for three- and four-year-olds. The curriculum will live inside a “train the trainer” model, supporting facilitators as they coach parents through weekly sessions over the course of about six months. What we need is something developmentally rich, easy to use, and flexible enough to meet families where they are, without sacrificing the science.

If you’ve created a curriculum for emergent readers, worked with families and young children, and are excited about the chance to help shape the early learning landscape in a hands-on, collaborative way, we hope you’ll consider submitting a proposal.

The full RFP includes all the details, including goals, deliverables, timelines, and how to apply. You can find it below. Proposals are due by August 29. For questions, reach out to programs@smallmagic.org.

We can’t wait to meet our partner in this work.
