Birmingham Talks
The future of Birmingham starts with you.
The things you teach will stay with children for the rest of their lives. Just like you, we want to make sure the children in your care receive and achieve the future they deserve.
We provide national award-winning literacy technology where we know it can make a tremendous difference: in early learning classrooms.
Children who participated in similar programs are three times as likely to be on track with their language skills. We’ve worked with dozens of providers across Jefferson County, including church-based, home-based, for-profit, and not-for-profit providers. We partner with the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education and our services closely align with the Quality Stars rating criteria.
Babies need to hear 21,000 words a day for optimal brain development.
- We equip providers with wearable technology that can count how many words children hear so that their teachers can assess the environment and set goals for growth.
- All participating classrooms also receive high-quality books and educational toys to reinforce program learnings and provide new opportunities for stimulation. If you serve primarily lower-income children, we provide all of this at absolutely no cost to you.
- We’ve designed our model to meet the real-life needs of providers and their teams. We provide a personalized coach to your center, schedule sessions during naptime or other convenient times, and provide financial incentives and professional development credit to participating classrooms.
Small Magic equipped my teachers with the necessary tools & strategies to affect change in their classrooms. We saw great gains with the children who were part of the Small Magic program. Language is the basis for literacy and we all want to improve literacy. This program is essential to building a strong foundation for children in the Birmingham area.
